What This Program Is
Ascent Lawyers is a Brisbane-based firm that focuses exclusively on personal injury and compensation law — CTP, WorkCover, Public Liability, and TPD. That specialisation means we handle complex, high-stakes claims every day, and it shapes how we train people.
This internship is a 20-business-day, in-office program based at our Eight Mile Plains office. It's designed to give you practical exposure to how a plaintiff compensation practice actually operates — from file preparation and evidence gathering to the systems and workflows that keep a specialist firm running.
All work is supervised, structured, and real. You won't be watching from the sidelines.
Interns who perform well are genuinely considered for future roles within the firm. This is one of the ways we find the people we want to work with.

Who Should Apply
This program is open to all current law students and PLT candidates. You don't need personal injury experience — we're looking for people who are motivated, dedicated, and wants to learn within a professional environment.
This is an unpaid vocational placement. It is structured to meet the requirements of university practical legal training and clinical placement programs.
- The Work
What You'll Actually Do
You'll be embedded in the practice and given real tasks from your first day. The specific work will depend on the firm's active matters and your developing capability, but typically includes:
- Exposure to live claim files across CTP, WorkCover, public liability, and TPD
- Drafting under supervision — correspondence, file notes, and research summaries
- Assisting with evidence gathering, medical chronologies, and document preparation
- Observing how claims are structured, assessed, and negotiated
- Learning the systems and workflows that support a specialist PI practice
All tasks come with written instructions, and supervision is ongoing — not just at the start.
The program includes a mid-point review and an end-of-program review, both designed to give you honest, structured feedback on your work.
All work is supervised. Interns do not provide legal advice to clients or have independent client contact.
