A tactic used by hackers is to impersonate as a law practice or another party involved in a legal matter. The hackers achieve this impersonation by changing, altering or falsifying electronic communications including email, fax, social media, text, instant messaging and documents including PDF or Word documents.
When you receive any email/communication from us, or anyone else, especially emails that require you to transfer funds, please take the following actions:
- Check the phone number of the sender of the communication – try to verify the phone number with other reliable sources (google or previous communications)
- Contact the sender (including us) by using that phone number;
- During your call, please confirm
- The Account & BSB numbers
- The amount
- Any other instructions
